I’m Matteo Botta, an 18-year-old landscape and travel photographer based in Lugano, Switzerland.
My passion for photography began when my parents bought me a small Canon camera at the age of 5. From that moment, I photographed everything I could everytime I could (later with my phone from age 12), but over time I discovered my true calling in nature photography.
At 14, I took a big leap into this passion and bought my first drone. Since then, I’ve been flying to capture the beauty of the natural world from above. That was the moment everything truly began.
I feel a deep connection with aerial photography. Capturing the artistic expressions of nature from perspectives invisible at eye level continues to inspire and intrigue me to this day.
In December of 2022, just 6 months after my first flight, I took an image that would go on to win an international photography competition and ever since I've been exhibited globally including in the US, the UK, Spain, Taiwan, China, Bolivia and many more countries.
My landscape and travel images have been awarded by organisations like the World Photography Organisation, Travel Photographer of the Year, Siena International Photo Awards and others, while, also thanks to these awards, my images have been published by media such as BBC, Amateur Photographer, PetaPixel and many others.
Through my work with Amazing Aerial, that I joined in 2025, I continue to push the boundaries of aerial imagery, crafting powerful and immersive visual narratives. I'm proud to be the youngest of the international team.
I was awarded the title of YOUNG INTERNATIONAL AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR OF 2025, thanks to my diversified portfolio, including landscape, travel and documentary works.
